Chen Yaoye capture Tianyuan
16 April, Chen Yaoye 9p capture Tianyuan title after winning 2 straight games in final against Gu Li 9p. Before that, Gu Li hold this title for 6 years. Many young masters tried to take this and few others title from Gu Li, but no one succeed. Chen Yaoye made it, but how this happen?
First game played 1 April started very common. First unexpected move play Chen Yaoye with white 26. This is very strong move, Gu Li was forced to pay hane at R17. If he play hane at R15 white will take 3-3 point – taking wall in direction of strong white group on top side is very bad.
First big fight started, but when Chen Yaoye play white 46, black position was very hard. Gu Li tried to get some profit by attacking white group on right side, but fail – black was forced to reinforce himself in gote with black 69.
Chen Yaoye build huge framework in center. Gu Li invade with black 73, but when Chen Yaoye first borrow some strength on bottom and then play very strong with white 84, black position again become very difficult. They made little exchange, but when white defend left side with white 108, black position was hopeless. After 178 moves Chen Yaoye won by resignation.
Opening in 1st game was pretty common. This time Gu Li tried to play something not so well known. Chen Yaoye surprise me in opening, by starting big fight with black 19. Gu Li again tried very hard to attack two weak black groups, but when Chen Yaoye cut white position with black 53 situation was reversed. Of course killing Gu Li is not so easy, but exchange which players made was better for Chen Yaoye.
Gu Li was behind in territory so he was forced to leave ko-alie group in bottom-right corner and start some complications in right side. Gu Li was pushing more and more. You should check great endgame move of white 180. Unfortunately for Gu Li, black lead was too big. Chen Yaoye in the end of the game release final blow with black 197, begging ko in bottom-right corner. After 245 moves Chen Yaoye won by resignation.
This victory is very important for many young baduk masters in China. In past rising stars like Zhou Ruiyang tried to capture title from Gu Li but failed. Chen Yaoye victory show many people that Gu Li is no longer invincible. In my opinion this can be compare to Choi Cheolhan victory over Lee Changho in Kisung final in 2004. Of course to be sure I need to wait for Mingren best-of-5 final.
