Lee Sedol beat last year champion
18 February, Lee Sedol 9p beat last year champion of Nongshim Cup – Chang Hao 9p – by resignation and give Korea team lead in last stage of Nongshim Cup. Day later he play against Gu Li 9p and won by 3,5 points.
In this game Lee Sedol play play very calm in opening, situation become complicated after nice move from Chang Hao – White 74. Possible semeai was so complex and Chang Hao decide to reinforce his group first with white 76. Lee Sedol also get chance to fix his weakness (black 77). After Black 93 black was leading. Chang Hao decide to complicate situation but in middle game fighting Lee Sedol is #1. After 169 moves Lee Sedol won by resignation.
In second game against #1 from Korea play #1 from China.Very interesting match. This game could be test before LG Cup final. This game was a big show. From beginning both player play very sharp moves (like 33, 72). After black 103 white wasn’t yet settled but Lee Sedol decide to invade upper side.
Once again Lee Sedol show great reading skill. There were even interesting ko fight in upper left corner. Gu Li won this ko, but was forced to give Lee Sedol two free moves. After that they begin the endgame stage. After 294 moves Lee Sedol won by 3,5 points.
Lee Sedol play first time in Nongshim Cup, but with great result. Lee Changho (captain of Korean team) didn’t play a single game. After one year, Korea again won Nongshim Cup. We can say 10th Nongshim Cup is tournament of 3 people Tuo Jiaxi, Kang Dongyun and Lee Sedol. Unexpected result of Nongshim Cup, but sponsors like this kind of tournaments :)
