Kang Dongyun won 5 games
24-29 November, 2nd stage of the Nongshim Cup was played in Pusan, Korea. After 1st stage which was dominated by Tuo Jaxi from China, Korean team send Kang Dongyun 8p to battlefield. Kang won this game and next 4. Kang beat Tuo Jiaxi record of 4 straight win. Unfortunately in the last game he lost to Takao Shinji from Japan.
Kang Dongyun journey in Nongshim cup started 24 November. Before the game everyone were interesting if he is able to stop Tuo Jiaxi. In opening Tuo Jiaxi fight like a hell to don’t give Kang too many territory. Everything starts from double hane in upper left corner. After white 44, black start complicated fight on left side. After black 61 Tuo Jiaxi surrender in this area and play tenuki.
From now games goes very smoothly up to black 83. After that jump white position was very difficult. After some forcing moves in upper right corner white play surprising white 104 which was very good :) Both side decided to make exchange. Black was leading, but a shape of his group on right side wasn’t fixed. Tuo last chance were to kill this group, but surprising he play 142 and let black to make perfect formation with black 143. After 303 moves Kang Dongyun won by 1,5 points.
Next day Kang Dongyun met Yamada Kimio from Japan. This was a great example of territory vs influence game. Kang who love to took not only many point in opening but also with 37 and 39 made some points in Yamada Kimio territory. On other hand Yamada Kimio show great cosmic go with white 36 and 38. Unfortunately Kang Dongyun enter Yamada Kimio moyo very easy with black 47. Maybe white 42 should be at 121 (cap at 21).
Very quickly game transform into package of complicated tsumego. Kang Dongyun show his great reading and kill white group in upper right corner. After 165 moves Yamada Kimio resign.
3rd game is always one of most important for every player in Nongshim Cup. If one win 3rd game he will get extra prize of 10 million Won, so everyone wants to win his 3rd win :) This time Kang Donyun opponent was Piao Wenyao from China. Piao Wenyao build huge territory on upper side. Of course Kang build some points in other places of the board. With white 56 Piao Wenyao show interesting approach of play. He want to use white 30 in maximum way. Of course this give Kang to play his favourite style – go to territory. Games looks very even. After long endgame Kang Dongyun won the game by 2,5 points.
In 4th game Kang Dongyun play against Hane Naoki from Japan. Hane Naoki had only one title in Japan, but very important – Honninbo. This game start with fight between big territories. The most interesting moment was when Hane play white 98 and destroy Kang Dongyun main territory.
Of course Hane Naoki must paid for this very severe. Kang Dongyun later attack white weak group in upper left corner and take a lead. After 199 moves Hane Naoki resigned.
In 28 November China team send they last member in this year. Against Kang Dongyun play Qiu Jun. In opening situation looks very for Kang Dongyun. Qiu Jun was in hurry to play in many places. In the end there were big ko fight. This ko fight was big burden for Qiu Jun. After 223 moves Qiu Jun resigned.
Kang Dongyun won 4th games and complete his task. After first day, when he beat Tuo Jiaxi he said he took 5 suits, each for each day in 2 stage of tournament and he plan to use them all :)
In first 4 games Kang always took black stones. In the 5th game against Takao Shinji from Japan he took white stones. The game from the start wasn’t easy for Kang Dongyun. First he play so many moves on second line in early stage of opening. Later Takao Shinji very skilful made a life within Kang big moyo. In interview Takao Shinji said that in this game he always was leading. After 165 moves Kang Dongyun resigned.
After this 2nd stage fo the Nongshim Cup ended. Last stage will be played in next year. 3rd stage will be very exciting. Takao Shinji to win tournament for Japan need to beat Lee Sedol and Lee Changho from Korea and Chang Hao and Gu Li from China. Mission Impossible :)
