Kong Jie Again in the Final
9-11 November, Juju, Korea held quarter- and semi-final of 14th LG Cup. In the result to final advance Lee Changho 9p (he beat Qiu Jun and Piao Wenyao) and Kong Jie 9p (he beat Choi Cheolhan and Park Yeonghun).
Lee Changho vs Piao Wenyao
In first game of semifinal Lee Changho play against Piao Wenyao with white stones. Piao Wenyao play heavy territory oriented opening. Lee Changho build thickness and with white 46 start first fight.
In fight both side made compromise and start long endgame. After white tsuke with white 124 black start to fall behind in territory, so Piao Wenyao take ponnuki to attack white center group. Unexpectedly Lee Changho sacrifice 5 stones in center. Lee Changho made the judgment that he have enough and he was right because after 246 moves Piao Wenyao resigned.
Park Yeonghun vs Kong Jie
In second game of semifinal Park Yeonghun play against Kong Jie by taking white stones. Park Yeonghun surprise with very aggressive way of play in opening. He build huge moyo on left side and his situation looked good, but Kong Jie show his great reading skill and start the magic with black 99 and few move latter kill white dragon. After 149 moves Park Yeonghun resigned.
LG Cup final
In final Kong Jie will play against Lee Changho. Several days ago Kong Jie advance to final of Samsung Cup, so we can said he is in good form. LG final will be played in February 2010.
