Handicap Joseki – Part II

Dia.1 – Tsuke Nobi Joseki
In first article of Handicap Joseki series I describe kosumi tsuke joseki. This was very powerful move, but some people like to play more peaceful. This time I will show tsuke nobi joseki, which is very good choice for this kind of players. This time black get super thick position without any unnecessary fight. The basic variation show Dia.1. After white 7 black need to defend at 8 or B, because of bad aji.

Dia.2 – Follow up
Joseki from Dia.1 gives black good shape, but the most important thing is follow-up tactic. In future black 1 is very powerful move in sente. If white play tenuki black will kill white by playing at 3. Next 4 and 5 are miai points, so white group is dead. Black 1 is sente, so white must play 2 at A and run to the centre.

Dia.3 – Variation
Of course before you start to play tsuke-nobi joseki you need to know some variations. White can play at 1 to take some points from black corner, but black will play 2. Sequence to black 10 is forced if white will continue than handicap stone at K4 is in perfect place. Of course there is some bad aji at corner, but black wall is really powerful and the game is now much easier for black.

Dia.4 – Invasion at 3×3
If white will invade at 3×3 point, black will build perfect shape by playing at 2. Black 10 is beutiful haengma to get tempo and fixed shape in corner.

Dia.5 – White Mistake
If white play at 1 instead of 3 in Dia.4 he will get unsatisfactory result. After white 1 black must be careful and don’t play hane – keima at 2 is must. Later black A is sente, so two white stones aren’t big issue.
