Lee Changho won 1st game in ING final

3 March Lee Changho 9p and Choi Cheolhan plays in 1 game of final in ING Cup. ING Cup is the most important tournament, played only one time in four years. It is not so frequently like other international tournaments, but if someone win title than he can be titled World Champion.
Lee Changho and Choi Cheolhan plays a lot in past. They know each other very well. Choi Cheolhan many times surprise many people by killing Lee Changho big groups (sometimes even strong walls). On other hand Korean tournaments are very fast, so it should suit Choi Cheolhan style of big fighting and founding great local moves, which can be overlooked in first place. Unfortunately in last years Choi Cheolhan had some problems and didn’t play well in Korean tournaments. 2009 is different, he won Maxim Cup by crushing Park Yeonghun after killing some groups by playing beautiful but very sharp moves.
Of course Ing Cup is much higher level, bacause of bigger time limit (3,5 hour for player + 35 minutes to buy for 2 points extra points for opponent – max 6 points spend for extra time). Other great factor which easily show difference between normal international tournaments and ING Cup is system best-of-5 game in final. Recently, the standard is best-of-3 games, there are even big tournaments where the final is single game. Because of this and a lot more factors to win Ing Cup, you must not only be top player with great fighting skill, bit in my opinion the most important is to have great strategy skill. Ing Cup reminds me old Japanese tournaments where one player spend hours on single move.
From this point of view I’m really interested in this match. I want to see how much the both player changed in past years. If Choi Cheolhan will be able to face Lee Changho strategy (In past it was common to some proffesionals to play great game without any big mistake and lost the game to Lee Changho)? If Lee Changho will counterattack Choi Cheolhan skillful moves?
First game show that Lee Changho have more experience in this kind of long games. In this game it’s hard to fight one single big fight. The outcome was decided in endgame. Lee Changho won by 3 points (komi is 8 points) This game give some idea about difference between Choi Cheolhan and Lee Sedol Baduk. Choi Cheolhan is great fighter, but it looks he can’t made complications anywhere. Lee Sedol don’t always have right, but his skill to push your opponents more and more are amazing, even if situation look stable he is able to found move to made big mess on whole board.
