Cho Hanseung – GS Caltex Challenger

3 November, 1st game from final of the 14th GS Caltex Cup was played between Cho Hanseung 9p and Park Yeonghun 9p. GS Caltex Cup is played in system of 5th game, so this title is one of the most important in Korea pro scene. In first game Cho Hanseung won by resignation.
Unfinished joseki
Cho Hanseung took black stones and build huge moyo on upper and right side of the board after playing tenuki and leaving unfinished joseki in bottom right corner. Park Yeonghun immediately took advantage of black weakness and capture several stones.
Cho Hanseung lost some stones, but overall situation wasn’t bad. Black had nice moyo and fighting is not Park Yeonghun strong side.
Confidence
After the exchange in upper right corner, black take a lead. White was forced to play fancy moves like thin shimari in bottom left corner, but black calmly answer with honte – demonstration of victory.
With white 112 Park Yeonghun tried his best to catch up. Black group seems to be in trouble, but Cho Hanseung made two ko and won the game after 168 moves.
Next match
Cho Hanseung took a lead in the final, but he is far from winning title. Second match will be played 17 November.
