Park Jungwhan – 14th Chunwon

15-23 December 2009, Park Jungwhan 4p and Kim Jiseok 6p played in the final of 14th Chunwon. Chunwon is tournament with specific system. Champion must play all games to defend the title, so it was no surprise that in the final there is no last years finalists(Lee Sedol 9p and Kang Dongyun 9p).
In first game Park Junghwan took white stone and made new variation in joseki at bottom left corner. Sequence was pretty complicated but also very interesting. Later black tried to build some territory on upper side, but white made invasion and easy life there. After 186 moves black resigned.
In second game Park Jungwhan took black stones and Kim Jiseok white stones. They again play interesting joseki, this time in upper right corner. IMHO the white shape after black 25 is not good. The game was full of life and death problems and flawless tesuji like black 89. After 244 moves Park Jungwhan won the game by one and half a point.
In third game Kim Jiseok took black stones. Opening in this game was common. Everything seemed to indicate that the game will be long. Unexpectedly Kim Jiseok made a misread in upper left corner and died. After only 130 moves Park Junghwan won the game by resignation and champion of 14th Chunwon.
Park Junghwan is in good form he also enter into final of 5th Siptan. His opponent will be Lee Changho 9p and they will start final on 5th January. Will he win another title? Please share your thoughts in the comments section.
