8-9 November Bytom
November 8-9 in MDK No. 1 in Bytom, 12 Powstańców Warszawskich Street held local Baduk tournament. This time this wasn’t ordinary tournament, because of Bytom President Cup, for which players fight in 5 rounds. I can said that tournament end with big succed. 48 players are ver good result. Last year in tournament play only 38 player so progress is more than 25%.
Tournament was also counted to biggest series of Polish Baduk Tournament: Grand Prix PSG (Polish Go Association). Originaly we (Bytom Club) made tournament main for baginner players, but after long talk with PSG we change our view and also invited many strong Dan players. Unfortunately result of this operation wasn’t good :( There is some reasons like another tournament in the same time in Warsaw. Baduk Tournament in Warsaw was part of bigger event, but Warsaw people could said us about this earlier (few days before tournament is very hard to change anything).Another problem in last day were baduk equipment. Many players register in last days. Fortunately with help from Cracow, Łódź and Gliwice Club’s we obtain enough gobans to give everyone place to play in tournament :)
This tournament show also new ideas in making tournament. We change Byo yomi system, before in Poland Byo yomi were always only 20-30 second 1 time, we decide to change it to 30 second 3 times. Giving 2 extra times limits number of stupid mistakes in endgame. Another idea which is not new but forgoten in past years is about giving discount in tournament fee for weaker player. Of course in all baduk tournament in Poland 20kyu and weaker have strong discount, but recently Polish Baduk have some problem. There are only few really bagginer players playing in tournaments. Recently bottom bar in tournament very often are on 10kyu level. I can surprise you that Bytom tournament is tournament with bigest number of double digit kyu players – 12.
For double digit kyu players we prepare special prize – new edition of book “Świat Go” writedn by Janusz Kraszek. This special prize was sponsored by Krzysztof Bożek. Of course frst prize was also very important :) Players play very hard for the cup. After 5 rounds Cup goes to Radosław Jachym 4dan. Second place goes to Mariusz Pabich 3dan. On 3rd position ended Krzysztof Bożek 2dan. Prize for best double digit kyu goes to Anna Klęk 18kyu.
