Sun Tengyu won Agon Cup
28 September, 11th Agon Cup was held in China. Agon Cup is blitz tournament. This year in final Piao Wenyao 5p play against Sun Tengyu 4p. Sun Tengyu was biggest dark horse, because he knockout Gu Li 9p in 2nd round.
Common Opening
Game started very common. This Opening is well known from all Opening Books. With black 15 Piao Wenyao is looking for new variation. Turning point of opening is black 21. Famous move invented by Lee Changho in 4th Kisung final. Sun Tungyu didn’t like result from Kisung final, so he decided to make new variation with powerful descent.
Piao Wenyao Questionable Play
After cut, the big fight started, but very early Piao Wenyao play a lot of questionable moves. Firstly, black 31 should be at 32, even if white will try to seal black stone on right side with move at 31, there is still a lot of bad aji. White take a chance a attack black very strongly. Situation become very complicated, but again Piao Wenyao again play another weird move for me. He decided to make compromise with black 45. I don’t know why he didn’t choose to capture two white stones, even if white would start ko, I don’t see any decent ko threat.
Fight in Center
Of course, after compromise in upper side game was far away from simple way. Big fight started in center. Situation looked not good for white until Sun Tengyu cut black with 90. White get sente after fight in corner and attack black dragon in vital point. When white kill 15 black stones in center, the game was practically finished. After 170 moves Piao Wenyao resigned.
Sun Tengyu Second Title
Sun Tengyu won prize of 200,000 Yuan and advance to Japan-China Agon Cup. He will play with the Cho U 9p or Hane Naoki 9p, depends who will win Japan Agon Cup final.
This victory give Sun Tengyu second national title. Last year he won National Go Individual champion. Sun is only 16-year old and become pro in age of twelve. Very impressive!
