Gu Li won Agon Cup
17 January Gu Li 9p and Cho U 9p play in international match between China and Japan champions of Agon Cup. In first 4 editions Japan won, but from 5 edition (Gu Li 1st Agon Cup) China dominated this tournament. This time again Gu Li won and defend China 6 straight win in Agon Cup.
The main problem in this game is variation in upper left corner. I don’t think that this is to black advantage. Gu Li, who took white stones play very sharp. He even take black corner in upper-right.
Next vital point in this game for me is black 109. I thought that black should build more influence on bottom side not top. After few moves Gu Li again show strong move with 122. Black lost some points, but situation wasn’t looking terrible, because after black 149 Cho U had some prospects to get some profit by attacking white group. Unfortunately black don’t get too many points in center, but also lost points in corner after white 166. After that white get solid lead. Black resign after 220 moves.
After this match China-Japan score is 6-4. Agon Cup show that gap between Japan and China master, grow slowly and without help of young baduk masters it will be impossible to back on international scene for Japan masters.
